overseen by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).\nTherefore, all regulations applicable to drugs and cosmetics must be adhered to when registering\ndisinfectants. In India, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetic products and disinfectants are regulated\nby CDSCO.<br><br>\nUnderstanding the correct classification of disinfectants is crucial for manufacturers to make informed\nregulatory decisions tailored to specific markets.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37fbf782 exad-sticky-section-no exad-glass-effect-no elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"37fbf782\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<b style=\"color:#012060\">Whether Disinfectants are classified as Drugs and Cosmetics or as an Insecticide in India?<\/b><br><br>\nDrugs and Cosmetics in India are regulated by Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) and\nInsecticides in India are regulated by Central Insecticide Board and Registration Committee (CIBRC).<br><br>\nThe term &quot;Biocide&quot; is not currently recognized in India, although discussions regarding guidelines for\nbiocides are ongoing at CIBRC (Central Insecticide Board and Registration Committee). The regulatory\nauthority that will oversee disinfectants, surface cleaners, toilet cleaners and germicidal formulations once\nbiocide guidelines are implemented in the future remains uncertain. Interdepartmental discussion is\nnecessary to assess whether any active substance falls within the scope of specific departments like CIBRC,\nCDSCO among others.<br><br>\nAs on today, Disinfectants (including surface disinfectants, wipes, sanitizers etc.) are regulated by CDSCO\nin India, which comes under the purview of drugs. Disinfectant is deemed as \u201cDrugs\u201d u\/s 3 (b)(ii) of the\nDrugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.
